How Bill Got the Netherlands to Jingle All the Way to Recycling

In 2023, a limited amount of the expected deposit-eligible packages were returned at Dutch train stations.
This, despite Tikkie making recycling simple by letting people claim their deposit refunds via the app when they use public deposit machines at locations like train stations. Yet, many travelers were still unaware of this convenient Tikkie proposition.That’s why Tikkie challenged us to create an activation that wouldn’t just spread the word but would make recycling fun.

We took center stage at the busiest train station in the Netherlands — Utrecht Centraal — and transformed it into a festive recycling hotspot. With Christmas around the corner, we introduced the ‘Tikkie Statiegeld Jukebox’: a festive music activation where travelers could deposit their empty cans and bottles and, in return, request their favorite Christmas hits.And at surprise moments throughout the day, we went even bigger….

The result? A burst of festive energy, commuters dancing to Christmas classics, and a wave of shareable social content that had everyone feeling the holiday cheer — all while learning how easy it is to recycle with Tikkie.
